Yachting World December 2010

Toby Hodges selects his three stand-out boats so far from among the yachts shortlisted for this year’s European Yacht of the Year award, after testing half the contenders in Holland.

There are 20 boats on the shortlist for this year’s European Yacht of the Year. Half were tested by a panel of judges in the Netherlands during the first week of September in a spicy easterly wind that ranged from 15-35 knots. The remainder will be trialled in Barcelona in November (see Yachting World, January 2011).

So far I have been particularly impressed by three performers; the First 30 and )PK 1010, in particular , aptly demon strate a current resurgence in 30ft performance cruisers. Most of the other candidates tested in Holland were in the Luxury Cruiser category and I also give you a run down on these. The winner of the European Yacht of the Year will be announced at the Dilsseldorf boat show in January.
