RAMBLER 88
This project is born out of the difficult situation of Rambler 100 losing her keel during the 2011 Fastnet race and George David’s commitment to rescue the boat, understand what happened and get back on the water. In 2012 he asked us to start thinking on a new project that should be capable of being faster than Rambler 100 but more all round performance and special attention in the light airs and IRC rating, the other condition was a maximum draft of 5.5m which later was shifted to 6m. The whole design process was based on designing around this draft.
At the beginning, we started with a 100’ but to be as efficient as we wanted to be we had to have a draft of at least 7m otherwise too heavy. We studied other lengths and concluded that 88’ was appropriate for the 6m draft. The rest of the boat follows from here.
